From a TikTok video to Google Maps, step by step
Getting a place from a TikTok video into a Google Maps list takes three steps: find the name, check it, save it.
Step 1: find the name of the place
Look for a location tag above the caption, read the caption and hashtags, and check the comments. If none of them names it, search a screenshot with Google Lens. Our guide on finding the location of a TikTok video explains each of these.
Step 2: search it in Google Maps and check it
Copy the name and paste it into the search bar in Google Maps. Add the city if the name is common. Before you trust the result, compare it with the video:
- Do the photos match what you saw?
- Is it in the right city or area?
- Is it still open? Check the hours and recent reviews.
Step 3: save it to a list
Tap Save and choose a list, or make a new one for the trip, such as "Lisbon, May". Every place in the list shows up as a pin. To share the list with friends, open it and tap Share.
Repeat for each video. For one or two places this takes a few minutes. For a trip built from twenty saved videos it is an evening.
Faster: share the video to TokTravel
TokTravel is an iPhone app that does part of step 1 for you: it reads the caption and the description. Share the TikTok to TokTravel, or paste its link. If the text names a place, the app finds it on a map and shows you the places it found. Tap Save to keep a place, then Open in Google Maps on its page. Step 2, checking it, is still yours.
Your saved places sit on a map in the app, grouped the way you like, and you can plan them into a trip by day. From a group of two or more saved places, Make a route puts the stops in order with travel times and can open them in Apple Maps.
A match can be wrong, so check it before you rely on it. If the video's text names no place, add the place yourself.
